Drama, drama, drama! Save it for your Mama!!! What creates it? Why do we feed it? Why do we love it? One of the characters on my favourite TV show Entourage claimed that engaging in drama kept her young…Really? I swear it makes my hair grey.
I have been taking this fabulous online yoga teacher training called 90 minutes to change the world! with Amy Ippoliti . I found for me it is 90 minutes to change my life. I have learned so much on how to create my container as a individual and as yoga teacher but what it has really taught me is that you must prioritize, chose your battles and surround yourself with people who will inspired and energize you and leave behind the folks that want to drag into the mud. There is always someone out there who wants to piss all over your parade! It’s hard because some people are genuinely your friends and are lovely people but they are so involved in their drama that they forget about everyone and everything else going on around them. I have spent some time this week assessing what is important and focusing on removing obstacles to my success.
I made a pact earlier this year not to get involved in drama. Oh, but it’s hard. Drama likes me and I am ashamed to admit it, I sometimes think it is fun in a dirty way. I know it is wrong, but I suffer from the human condition. It is a huge time waster and prana drainer and our energies could be better used on the positive and figuring how to empower each other and the world. I am taking this approach when I teach my students in teacher training and in my yoga classes. Be true to your own heart!
We started Yoga Teacher Training at Eastside Yoga Studio and we are about 3 weeks into the process. The group dynamic is so interesting this year. I think last year I was nervous and unsure of my abilities to teach a teacher training and I attracted some students who were perhaps unsure of their path and their commitment to the teaching of yoga. I attracted a few students who love drama. This year I felt so confident and empowered that I think I have attracted a group of students who are truly dedicated to finding themselves and to changing the world. They are keeners for sure! No drama queens so far…time will only tell.
How did my perceptions about myself, and in turn my abilities, change? How did I attract empowered students to serve on the path of yoga???? I believe it was opening to possibilities…which for me is code for open to supreme consciousness! Once I opened more fully to grace all these awesome people came into life. People who uplifted me and helped to gain greater awareness and greater success, emotionally, spiritually and professionally.
I am learning in order to attract what I want I must KNOW what I want. Sometimes that can be really impossible when there are so many options available. Opening to possibility and being comfortable with who I am has made my life much more easeful. It can do the same for you. What drama in your life does not belong to you? Why are you engaging in it? Is it helping you? Or is it just bad girl/boy fun? How are you helping others by continuing to be sucked in to all this DRAMA?
These are important questions to ask yourself. This type of behaviour is time consuming, energy draining and non-productive. I for one am over it…right? YES!!!! I am devoting my time to changing the world and I can’t do it if I am embroiled in Bullshit. So my question to you is what are you doing to empower the world, your students, your family, your friends and your life….
Until next time…we take yet another step on the path…
