I am so excited to be taking this wonderful teacher training with Amy Ippoliti 90 minutes to change the world. It has given me great perspective on my teaching and has helped to understand teaching yoga as a profession. I take the blessing I was given in teaching very seriously but now I know I need to be more focused in how I present and create this container of teacher. This training has taught me how to better focus my energies and attentions and create a more intergrated awareness of teaching as a profession.
One of the best pieces of advice I receieved was to give myself the 10 minute gift. Practice yoga for 10 minutes everyday. I usually find I talk myself out of a personal practice because I don’t have the 60-90 minutes to devote to a practice. Surprisely 10 minutes is enough to feel better and to get inspired. Ten minutes often turns into 30 minutes and strangely enough I find I do have enough time to practice. Having a regular yoga practice makes me a better yoga teacher and keeps me honest about my offerings and abilities. I feel like more of my authentic self when I practice yoga.
One of homework assignments this week was to create a teacher’s practice in the hopes of creating community. I loved the idea and created a teacher’s practice in our studio. It was so fun. It is nice to be in the vibe of other yoga teachers. I hope it will create more harmony and less misunderstandings and hurt feelings. I am looking forward to sharing the teachings, also offering and creating strong friendships. I have learned that not all teachers have the interest of the kula at heart. I did experience some strange resistance to this open practice and I learned not to engage that which does not serve the greater good. It was a reminder to keep my own ego in check and that the number one priority to serve the students and my community.
We have so many different styles of yoga and personalities to grow and learn from. I am hoping to build a genuine community, to share the vibe and have the opportunity to connect with others. I look forward to this new journey… join us Sunday mornings at 7am. 90 minutes may change your life
