Are you tired of yoga that just doesn't work for you?

Much of what we see in westernized yoga is for the super athletic and fit. We’ve all seen too many pictures of fitness models doing seemingly impossible poses on mountain tops or other exotic locations. That’s great for Instagram, but not for real life.

I started practicing yoga with my mom when I was three and we just practiced. It wasn’t about achieving a specific shape. Then, when I started practicing in yoga studios, I realized that yoga had shifted into moving—and looking—one specific way.

I didn’t fit the new yoga ideal. Not. Even. Close.

So when I became a yoga teacher, I vowed that my classes would be different. My classes would truly be for anyone who wanted to practice and not just the privileged, able-bodied few.

And I’ve dedicated every day of my 20+ year yoga career to making yoga accessible to people who feel left behind in traditional studio and online yoga classes.

The secret is in learning how to make the poses work for your body type.

That’s why I wrote the book “Yoga for Everyone.” To show that yoga is possible regardless of shape, size or ability.

The cover of Yoga for Everyone: 50 Poses for Every Type of Body.

Yoga for Everyone has been a bestselling book and is a common sight in yoga studios and personal collections everywhere. This book breaks down ten sequences and 50 of the most common yoga poses and teaches you how to modify them to work in your body.

Now I’ve turned this book into an online course.

I have trouble following classes online because they tend to move too fast and include yoga poses that I find challenging or even impossible.

A Personal Note

This movement is my Dharma, my noble purpose.

I look for diversity and equity in all the places I inhabit. I saw that a practice that saved my sanity and helped me navigate this difficult world had been  hijacked, commodified, sexualized and made exclusive to a certain group of people. This pushes already marginalized folks  further to the margins and away from something that can bring us peace, self-care, self awareness, action and justice. I had to do something. I had to disrupt the system. I needed representation.

As a black person who practices yoga I needed to see more representation. I wanted to see more diversity in yoga spaces. This is why I wrote the book “Yoga for Everyone,” and created this Yoga for Everyone companion course.

It’s my hope that you’ll join me on this journey.

With gratitude,

Dianne
