Intentional Well-Being Podcast: Inspiration, Creativity, and Cultural Appropriation
Hello and welcome to this week’s episode of the Intentional Well-Being Podcast. Let me start off my saying that I love spending time in my own mind. I ponder the events in the world and I strategize how to show up. But even I need a break from my own mind at times. As a result, my husband and I decided to go out to a movie. And since he is a musician, we landed on ‘Elvis.’
Now, I already had my view on the named “King of Rock and Roll.” I believe his music was influenced by african american culture that did not receive the recognition it deserved. Even if he did grow up in a black community.
Which leads me to today’s short discussion. When we take inspiration from others and we create something, we must honor the places those piles of inspiration came from. We must lift up the voices that helped us become successful.
This is important for the well-being of that community. To know that our contributions are recognized. As a result, we gain greater self-esteem. We are seen for who we are and what we are capable of. This is important to our healing in the collective community.
