Intentional Well-Being Podcast: 50 Shades of Blackness
Hello and welcome to this week’s episode of the Intentional Well-Being Podcast. Today, I want to talk about the multiple layers (shades, if you will) of blackness. Believe it or not, not all black people are of African American descent; and that includes myself.
As a Canadian, born and raised, a lot of my cultural influences have come from my American cousins. In fact, American culture has shaped the Canadian national identity in such a profound way that at times it’s hard to distinguish what our own identify truly is.
And that brings me to the topic of Juneteenth now being celebrated as a federal holiday in the United States. Who is it really for? Who should be celebrating the holiday and how so? And most importantly, how can we continue to better ourselves and grow as a whole by staying educated on historical events so that we can continue to be the change in this world?
