Yoga and Social Justice: What does it mean to you?
One of the topics I love to talk about is yoga and social justice. I am pretty fired up after coming back from Race and Yoga Conference at University of California, Berkeley.

It has taken me a really long time to accept who I am. As women, society tells us that what we look like is far more important that who we are, and how we feel.
I have always been outspoken… and it has often gotten me into trouble. Honestly, I can’t help it. I will always speak out publicly when I feel like something important needs to be said in order to fight for equality and acceptance for all people.
On Friday April 10th – just 2 days after my 45th birthday – I had one of the biggest moments of my yoga career. I was the opening keynote speaker at the Race and Yoga Conference at University of California, Berkeley.
My hubby and I did a morning yoga practice and I thought we might share it with you.
Did you know that teaching people to love their bodies and themselves raises our consciousness? It makes us better as human beings. It makes us more loving, compassionate and interesting.
Did you know that every year is your year? 2015 is no different. What are you going to do with your year? What intentions do you want to set for yourself? What things do you want to do?
I woke up this morning inspired. I had an incredible 2014. I am so grateful for this year. It came on the heels of a disappointing 2013. I had a lot of things happen in 2013 that I was grateful to leave behind. As challenging as 2013 was, I was grateful for the lessons learned. I was thankful for the opportunities to grow and for the new friendships I created, as well as the friends that moved on to find themselves in a different energy. The things that were holding me back fell away.
Check out my quick tutorial on how to execute gomukasana more in a bigger body! Love to hear your thoughts and see your version of this pose.
Someone recently emailed me to ask, “Am I just too fat for wide legged forward fold?" No! Yoga is for all of us, especially us curvy yogis. Today's tutorial video makes Prasarita Paddottasana accessible for all.
Adding jumps backwards into Plank pose and hops forward to the top of your mat, can elevate the intensity of any yoga sequence. Mastering these tricky transitions takes some time, patience, and core strength! In the video below, I’ll share my favorite alignment cues and special techniques to help you take flight, while also building your upper body and core strength.
I was thrilled to be interviewed by Jesse Herricott of Heart and Soul radio. In our conversation talked about everything from yoga and spirituality to yoga and diversity and a lot of things in between. We explore how to create more diversity in our world and on the mat.
Everyday activities like sitting in a desk can tighten up your hips and tight hips often results in low back pain! Fortunately, hip opening yoga poses can help reduce and relieve that back pain by stretching out the hips and the psoas muscle.
So a lot of us bigger sized yoga people love to give certain companies (cough lulu cough) grief for not making bigger sized yoga clothes. In an attempt to focus on the positive, I have found a few brands that do make great yoga pants, shirts and other yoga clothes for the more curvy yoga practitioner.
In today’s video tutorial, I demonstrate some tips to help bigger bodied people get into handstand, including strengthening exercises and how to use props for support.
Day 7 and 8 of our challenge are here. It has been an amazing journey. I find I find it hard to get on my mat sometimes, so I am grateful to you and this challenge for keeping me accountable.

Today I’m checking in on how Day 4 of the challenge is going for me, plus I share a favourite playlist that you can try with your practice.
It was really had to get up this morning. I set my alarm with the intention to get up and practice; it was so hard. It helped knowing that you were all in this with me. It helped me get to my mat. Getting there is 90% of the battle for me. I did 10 minutes of meditation and 10 sun salutes. Success!
I was inspired by a great idea from one of our challengers, adding a minute every day to our practice. My practice today was about gratitude. I did 9 minutes of meditation and 16 minutes of asana.
